                             Reflection

Nolan Lewis Jr. was born January 19, 1951 In Minden Louisiana

To the late Nolan Lewis Sr. and Dora Mae Cooksey Lewis. He Departed his life on Saturday March 4, 2023 in Riverside MO.

He is preceded in death by his mother Dora Mae (Cooksey) Lewis and father Nolan Lewis Sr. 2 Brothers Harvey Lewis and Willie Lewis.

Nolan grew up with his oldest sister Evon Ellis who at a young age worked in the fields. At this time, she took great responsibility and care for her younger siblings. Nolan’s father would go back and forth between Kansas City and Louisiana to support his family while working at  Richards Gebaur Military Air force base.  Eventually, Nolan and his siblings moved to Kansas City in the late 1950’s they moved to 2426 Walrond Avenue,  1316 Woodland Avenue. During that time in KCMO  they attended Metropolitan AME church and met Reverend J.B. Randolph . Finally, moving to a new location where his mother and father settled down and purchased 3539 Olive in Kansas City MO. Nolan is the 1st Son out of 12 Children. Often kids from other households would visit, considering Nolans Father and Mother as Community Parents.  Upon returning from Job Corps, Nolan stayed with younger brothers prior to real health challenges. Their memories together were of them listening to music, the likes of Coltrane, Gill Scott Heron, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis the list goes on…

Nolan was a Gentle Giant. As years went on, his health declined physically but he was the son of a soldier, who was taught at an early age different skills and was challenged to make the most of life. He was a Lewis/Cooksey Man and that meant carry your cross to the finish line. Nolan fought a great battle,  he ran a difficult race and all in all he was a fighter!

Nolan Leaves to cherish his memories his nine remaining siblings

Evon Ellis (Ray), Geraldine Giles (Henry) Rayford Lewis

Doris A. Graves (Jeff) Wendalyn J. Baxter, Jacqueline C. Witherspoon (Kenny)

 Kenneth W. Lewis (Andrea)
