Dave joined Dottie and David in Heaven on November 9, 2021.  A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, KS on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

Dave was born in Wichita, KS on July 3, 1937 to Wayne and Mildred Schmidt.  He attended Wichita East High School and went on to Wichita State University. Dave earned his master’s degree in education at the University of Kansas.  Dave married Dottie (Owens) Schmidt in 1957 and they were married for 61 years before her passing in 2019.

Dave worked first as a teacher, coach and principal in the Shawnee Mission School District.  He later became a school board member and President for the district.  After teaching, Dave became a speaker and consultant for Lawrence Leiter and later formed his own company.  This led him around the world to deliver over 4,000 presentations as a keynote speaker on management and leadership.  Dottie and Dave enjoyed traveling to many great places.  Dave retired from Lee Hecht Harrison as an outplacement consultant at the age of 80.

Loving and serving the Lord became his lifetime commitment in 1998.  He truly enjoyed his church, pastor, small groups, Sunday school classes and serving in the Silver Link Ministries.

Dave was a dedicated grandfather treating his grandchildren to “Saturday Morning Hy-Vee “each week for nearly 20 years. Dave is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Deb and Brian O’Hearne and Dana and Chris Arth of Overland Park and grandchildren Emily, Lauren, Paige, Alexandra, David, Sam and Jon and great grandchildren Oliver, Drew and Olivia.  He is also survived by three brothers Bob (Mary) Schmidt, Jim (Kay) Schmidt and Ralph (Francine) Schmidt.
