It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor Hugo Berndt, Jr., who left us on August 27, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on September 23, 1942, Victor lived a life brimming with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to serving others.

Victor was the epitome of "Mr. Hospitality." His ability to make everyone around him feel valued and cherished was a testament to his warm and generous spirit. As a maitre d' in Kansas City, he became an integral part of the dining experience for countless patrons, transforming fine dining into an event filled with joy and laughter. Colleagues and friends often recalled fondly how Victor's humor lifted the spirits of everyone in the room, making any occasion a memorable one. One colleague aptly noted, “you can’t out-Victor Victor,” highlighting his unmatched ability to shine in the hospitality industry. To be married to Victor was to experience a love that felt akin to royalty, as he showered his beloved wife, Irene, with affection, along with his well-known reputation in the hospitality world.

A devoted family man, Victor's happiest moments were spent surrounded by his loved ones, particularly during the holidays. Thanksgiving was an esteemed occasion in his home, with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. His son, William, and his son, Robert, were the apples of his eye, and he nurtured their dreams with unwavering support and affection.

Victor’s hospitality extended beyond his professional life as he frequently volunteered his services at church banquets. His selfless contributions earned him the employee of the month award as manager at the Top of the Crown, the restaurant on top of the Westin Hotel. His love for gardening and wildlife delighted him in his spare time. In his quieter moments, he could be found feeding the birds or driving his cherished muscle car, always exuding a zest for life.

Victor proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating his love for his country and embodying the values of service and dedication. He embraced every challenge with grace, including mastering his sommelier training, placing him among the best in his field. His legacy is one woven with compassion, excellence, and unparalleled service.

As we remember Victor, we look forward to celebrating his remarkable life during a memorial service at Norfleet Baptist Church in Kansas City on September 4, 2025, beginning at 4:00 PM. Victor’s Christian Faith was very influential from his early years, thanks to his mother, and all throughout his life. Family and friends are invited to join together in honoring the memory of a beautiful soul whose spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Victor Hugo Berndt, Jr. may have departed from this world, but the love he shared and the laughter he inspired will continue to resonate in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.
