Valarie Irene Poteet

Valarie Irene Jerrell Poteet, 52, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on September 18, 2026. She was born on November 23, 1973, to Teri Thompson and was a lifelong daughter, sister, wife, and friend who cherished the people and animals she loved dearly. 

Valarie was known for her warm and personable nature, quick wit, and ability to bring laughter into the lives of those around her. She had a personality that made her memorable and a heart that allowed her to form meaningful connections with the people she met. She deeply cherished her family and friends and valued the time she was able to spend with those closest to her. 

Valarie was a graduate of Green Ridge High School. Her love of learning and her connection to her community remained important parts of her life. She was also a dedicated and hardworking person who took great pride in her career. She loved her job and approached her work with commitment, determination, and a strong work ethic. 

One of Valarie's greatest joys was spending time outdoors. She loved camping, float trips, and finding opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature. She had a sense of adventure and was always willing to make plans for the next outing. Whether it was a carefully planned trip or a simple day spent enjoying the outdoors, Valarie appreciated the memories made along the way. 

Valarie had a special place in her heart for her beloved fur babies. They were an important part of her life and brought her tremendous companionship and joy. Her love for animals was another reflection of the caring spirit she shared with those around her. 

Above all, Valarie treasured her family. She leaves behind her loving husband, Shawn Poteet of Blue Springs; her mother, Teri Thompson step father Raymond Thompson; of Green Ridge; her brothers, Don Adams and his spouse, Randi, of Springfield; Les Adams, of Marshall; Johnny Thompson, of Sedalia; her sisters, Heather Mustain and her spouse, Kris, of Bolivar; Priscilla Blackmore and her spouse, Thaddius; of Green Ridge; Shirley Mercer and her spouse, Michael, both of Rotonda, Florida; and Rachael Hinkle and her spouse, Jake, of Smithton: Cousin Phyllis Atkin, of Green Ridge. 

Valarie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Virgil and Shirley Irene Jerrell, and her uncle, Gregory Lee Jerrell. 

Valarie's passing leaves a deep sadness for all who loved her, but her life also leaves behind countless memories to be treasured. She will be remembered for her humor, her personality, her dedication, her love of family, her appreciation for the outdoors, and her ability to make ordinary moments into lasting memories. 

Although she is no longer here to join her loved ones on the next camping trip, float trip, or adventure, the memories she created will remain with them. Her family and friends will carry her with them in the places she loved, the stories they share, and the moments that bring a smile when they think of her. 

Valarie lived a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, family, friendship, and adventure. She will be deeply missed by her husband, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will never be forgotten.
