Muriel McClenny

Muriel Anita (Cook) McClenny passed September 26th, 2026 at Homestead of Overland Park. Muriel was born on January 22nd, 1937 in St. Marys, Kansas to Shelton and Anita Cook.

She graduated from Topeka High Schoo. Muriel worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 37 years and retired in 1997 as the Executive Secretary to the President.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles McClenny; her parents, Shelton and Anita Cook; her siblings, Cecil Cook, Albert Cook, William Cook, Norma Jean (Cook) and Guy Cook.

Survivors include her children; Tonya Vila, Shawn (Carolina) McClenny, Jodi (Pat) VanderWoude; grandchildren, Talia (Rob) Young, Andre (Daryn) Vila, Tristan Vila, Elle McClenny; great-grandchildren, Jerrek, Jaxton, Taelyn and Tobin.

She was known by friends and family as "Sweet" Muriel. Her life evolved around her family. She was an amazing wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and sister. She also served as a deacon and elder at her church.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 3rd at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604. A service to honor and celebrate Muriel's life will follow at 2:00 pm at Trinity Presbyterian.
