Melvin Ross

Melvin, Ross, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on September 24, 2026, in Belton at the age of 85. He was born on December 5, 1940, in Dodson, Texas, to Dallas Ross and Willie Mae Ross.

Melvin built a life marked by hard work, deep love for his family, and a love of the outdoors. He was a truck driver for many years and took great pride in his skill behind the wheel. His abilities earned him opportunities to compete in truck rodeos, where drivers navigated obstacle courses and tested their control of large trucks. He also trained German short-haired pointers for hunting and retrieving, combining patience, discipline, and a strong appreciation for the sporting life.

He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, and quail. His favorite places to go for hunting trips were Nebraska and Iowa. He also liked to water ski at the local lakes in Missouri, and he found great happiness in taking his family camping, especially around the lakes of Missouri. Whether outside in the woods, on the water, or gathered with loved ones at a campsite, Melvin was in his element.

Melvin also gave his time and enthusiasm to coaching baseball, and he was an avid sports fan. He especially loved baseball and football, though he enjoyed watching nearly any sport involving a ball. He was known as an excellent father and husband who loved his family dearly. Warm and outgoing by nature, he never met a stranger. He loved to talk, whether with someone he had just met or with a longtime friend, and he took a sincere interest in people and their experiences. Melvin attended Living Faith Christian Center Oak Harbor, Wa. Pastored by Apostle David Jenkins ,Pastor Linda Jenkins and Pastor Samuel Giles.

He was one of 14 children born to Dallas Ross and Willie Mae Ross, both of whom preceded him in death. 13 of his siblings proceeded him in death with one brother remaining Norzel Ross.

Melvin’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Noah Ross of 63 years and by his children Carolyn Yearby (Nathan) of Grandview, Mo., LeMel Ross deceased (Debra), of San Antonio, Tx. ,Diane Herron (Johnny) of Oak Harbor, Wa., and Tiffany Ross of Phoenix, Az. Melvin also leaves his 16 Grandchildren Joshua Sharp, Chantel Butler, Brandi Ross, Melvin Ross, Tiane Ross, Dayne Herron, Dallas Ross, MaKenzie Yearby, Lisa Ross, Courtney Ross, Micah Yearby, Ebony Ross, Sydney Jackson, JeLem Ross, Dovie Herron and Johnny Herron Jr.

Melvin also leaves 19 Great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way. The love he shared with his family, along with the many conversations, outdoor adventures, and happy times together, will remain a lasting part of their lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 2, 2026, starting at 12:00 p.m. at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
