Linda Ann Brown

March 28, 1951 — January 30, 2024

Linda Ann (Savner) Brown passed away in her home on January 30, 2024 at age 72, after a brave battle with cancer.  Linda was born on March 28, 1951 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to parents Richard and Anne (Andrascik) Savner. She was the oldest of four children.

Linda’s parents moved to Kansas City, KS in 1953.  As a young teen she met a cute neighborhood boy, Ray Brown. They joined in with all their friends, having fun playing badminton, wiffleball, board games and held neighborhood dances. From there the dating began through 2 years of college at Emporia State University, from 1969-1971. In 1971 Linda married Ray and they settled in Kansas City, Kansas. They later relocated to Shawnee, KS, where she lived 44 years.

During her college years, Linda attended University of St. Mary (1971-1973). She graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. She taught in the KCK Archdiocese for 19 years. During these years she and Ray were blessed with 2 sons, Ryan in 1977 and Jake in 1979.

Linda’s passions at this time were her loving husband and sons, her teaching career and friendships. Linda enthusiastically signed up for the Mentor Teacher Program at Avila University. She welcomed the opportunity to be a “teacher-mentor” for numerous student teachers and practicum students while teaching full time.

During her years in the parochial schools, Linda and Ray were invited by their church to be Lead Couples for the Marriage Preparation Program. They enjoyed hosting soon-to-be-married couples in their home for discussions about marriage.

Next, Linda completed her Masters Degree of Education from Webster University. In 1992, she joined the Blue Valley School District and taught there for 14 years. Before retiring, Linda taught full time and as a substitute teacher at Barstow School from 2006-2020.

Linda and Ray attended St. Andrew Church in Olathe, KS. She was a member of the Pastoral Partners Team. Caring about the environment, she joined St. Andrew’s group for Ecology (SAGE).

In retirement, Linda’s passions were her grandchildren, family and friends, travel, and exercise- especially yoga and bicycling. She loved to read and looked forward to her monthly book club.

Linda was very social and frequently spent time with friends. Her other volunteer work included: Johnson County IHN, which is a homeless shelter. She led the fundraising effort for their annual auction. She was also involved with the Community Enrichment Mission (CEM) and Grandparents for Gun Safety (GGS).

Linda is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ray Savner. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Raymond “Ray” Brown, two sons Ryan Brown and wife Darla, Andrew Jacob Brown (Jake), and wife Stacie, grandchildren: Brecken, Mitchell, Lucas, Kolbe, Felicity, Josephine, Levi, Easton and Camden, sister Lorraine (Richard) Lee, brother Steve (Tammy) Savner, nephews and nieces and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
