Obituary

Kevin James Smith, beloved son, passed away on 03/17/2026 at the age of 44 in Overland Park, Kansas. Kevin was a cherished member of his family and will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and the love he shared with those around him. He was a Computer Software Engineer with a Computer Science Degree from UMKC.

He was the treasured son of Larry & Glenda Smith, and a loving brother of Vikki. Kevin brought warmth and comfort to his family, and his presence will be deeply missed. He was the best son.

Kevin had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard, expressing himself through the sounds he created. He also found joy in playing video games and spending time immersed in the worlds they offered.

He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, and he loved watching their games and cheering them on. These moments brought him excitement and connection, especially when shared with others. He would call his Mom & Dad after each Chiefs game if they won to discuss the game.

Kevin had a special love for his dogs, Lincoln and Alice, who were dear companions and brought him great comfort and happiness. His bond with them reflected his gentle and caring nature.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather James, great paternal grandmother Gladys, great paternal grandfather Bill, great maternal grandmother Henrietta, great maternal grandfather Joe, paternal grandfather David D. Smith and paternal grandmother Velita “Ann”.

He is survived by his parents Larry & Glenda Smith, sister Vikki (Dave) Visnich and their children: Sierra, Ariana and Annabelle, maternal grandmother Josie Edmonsond, aunts Debbie Roberts, Dora “Cissy” Browne and Lisa (Steve) May, great uncle Stephen Garcia and cousins Susannah (Kevin) Green & their children Josie and Maddox. Cousins Garrett Browne, Salena Browne, Kelsey May, Nathan (Kara) May and their son James. A long time family member Rocky Browne.

Kevin will forever remain in our heart. He is now at peace, held in God’s loving embrace. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
