January 24, 1936 - June 14, 2021

Joan K. McCurley, 85, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Monday, June 14, 2021.

She was born January 24, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri. Joan was the daughter of Joseph Edward Kerby and Sue Carol Blaurock. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1954. She was married to William Dale McCurley. She is survived by her husband, her brother Jerry Lee Kerby, her two daughters and one son and their spouses, Susan & Kevin, Margot & George, and Chris & Tracy, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.  Joan retired from Black & Veatch having worked as the librarian / researcher. Her passion to serve others led her to bake and serve food at a local food bank one Saturday a month. She was a VolStar for twenty-five years with Johnson Co. Community College Cultural Arts Center and volunteered for the Kansas City Symphony as well as the John Wornall House. She loved to take friends to tour gardens. When traveling, she was never afraid to get off the beaten path to explore. Singing in the choir was something she enjoyed all her life. It gave her the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall. Her family was her greatest delight, and she was very demonstrative in her love and devotion to them.

“For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 54:10
