James Alvin Oliver, Jr., age 91, of Hillsdale, KS, passed away September 16, 2025, at 6:00pm with family by his side.
As per his wishes, he donated his body to KU Medical Center for research. No services are planned at this time. Graveside services will be scheduled at a later date.
Jim was born on December 16, 1933, to James Alvin Oliver, Sr., and Gladys Seibert Oliver. From the age of 10 days old, Jim was raised by his maternal grandparents, Charlie Seibert and Helena Ann Stroug Seibert.
Jim graduated in 1952 from Amite High School in Amite, LA. Jim joined the U.S. Army prior to graduation. The day after graduation, he shipped out to Fort Leonard Wood. He served during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1955. While serving in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he met and married Janie Medlin on March 28, 1953.
After serving in the Army, Jim was a Construction Contractor until retirement. He enjoyed storytelling, visitors, and especially fishing. He was an avid supporter of VFW Post 3712 in Paola, KS and the Veterans Administration.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, 11 brothers and sisters, and 1 Granddaughter, Randa Oliver.
He is survived by his wife, Janie (Medlin) Oliver; his 5 Children, Jeff Oliver, Judy Oliver, James Oliver, Karen Oliver, and Randy (Cindy) Oliver; stepdaughter, Linda (Jerry) Choate, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation for all of the calls, visits and support. Sincere thanks to his special caregiver, Robbin Wilson, as well as Olathe Health Hospice Care, and to Russell O’Meare for all of his transportation to medical appointments over the years.
