Erasmo Peter Hernandez

Erasmo Peter Hernandez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on July 10, 2026, in Kansas City, MO. Born on February 15, 1950, in Puerto Rico, Erasmo was proudly raised in Chicago, a city that held a special place in his heart and shaped the man he became.

Erasmo’s journey took him far from his home town. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force as a Fire Fighter. During his time served, he was able to climb the ranks, eventually becoming a Master Sargent and the Fire Chief. While stationed at Vandenburg Air Force Base, Erasmo was honored to work on the Space Shuttle program.

His military service was only the start of an industrious career. For over 25 years, Erasmo worked as the Floor Supervisor at Sioux Chief Manufacturing Company. He guided his team to ensure high standards were met and earned the respect of his colleagues.

Beyond his professional life, Erasmo’s greatest joy was his family. He met the love of his life, Rebecca, in England, where their romance blossomed over games of darts and evenings spent in local pubs. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

A man of many passions, Erasmo treasured time spent with his family above all else. He was an avid baseball enthusiast, cheering ceaselessly for the Chicago Cubs and occasionally for the Kansas City Royals, though his heart always remained true to the Cubs. His love of baseball was great, however, it was during the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs football games that his home would transform into the very stadium itself, where he would yell at the TV and cheer as loud as he could for his favorite teams. He found peace in fishing, a pastime that allowed him tranquil moments of reflection. Erasmo was also known for his skills at barbecuing, delighting friends and family with his signature ribs and brisket.

Throughout his life, Erasmo embodied kindness and generosity. He was a proud man, whose legacy lives on in those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Erasmo is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hernandez; daughter, Janine Hernandez; and son, Matthew Hernandez, each of whom carry forward his spirit and values. Erasmo is also lovingly remembered by his 11 Grandchildren and 26 Great-Grandchildren. Erasmo is preceded in death by his daughters, Teresa Hernandez and Laura Hernandez.
