Connie S. Bailey, a spirited and independent woman known for her distinctive approach to life and unwavering sense of individuality, passed away on April 10, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on December 27, 1955, in Ottawa, Kansas, Connie lived a life marked by strong opinions, deep passions, and an enduring love for her family and interests.
Connie was a woman who embraced life on her own terms, never one to simply follow the book but always forging her own unique path. Her independence was an important part of her character, and those who knew her admired her for the strength of her convictions.
One of Connie’s cherished joys was traveling with her family, especially the moments spent on the road trips where she delighted in stopping at Walmart's—a routine prompted by her grandson’s enthusiasm for these stops. This simple pleasure became a meaningful ritual, as she fondly recalled these trips, associating each Walmart visit with the warmth of family.
She had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. Connie found a peaceful, calming comfort in crocheting, reading, and the intricate art of diamond painting. Her fascination with cars was profound; she was an enthusiast of both classic cars and modern cars. Family outings to the Sedalia Derby were occasions she treasured immensely. She found beauty and inspiration in the majestic beauty of butterflies and plants. Alongside these interests, Connie was a devoted baseball fan, passionately supporting the Kansas City Royals.
Connie is survived by her son, Brian Baker, who carries forward her legacy, and her beloved grandsons, Ryan Baker, whose enthusiasm for Walmart stops remained a special bond between them, and Donald Baker. She also leaves behind her sisters, Marlene Roether, with whom she shared a close relationship enriched by countless memories, including their antique shopping trips to Branson, Missouri—a pastime that brought them joy and togetherness, and Brenda Miller. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Helen Ferguson, whose memory she honored throughout her life, as well as her grandson, Jesse Baker.
Connie’s life was one of deep connection to those she loved. Her memory will be cherished by family and friends alike.
