Claiborne Hunt Fitch, a gentle and kind-hearted man, departed this life on July 6, 2025, in Kansas City, KS. Born on February 13, 1942, in Kansas City, MO, he was a devoted husband and a dedicated professional whose compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. God is receiving his soul with His open arms.
Claiborne received his early education at Taylor School in St. Louis, MO, and continued his academic journey in Baldwin City from 1952 to 1959. This foundation provided him with the knowledge and skills that he would later apply in his esteemed career.
His service to his country began in 1959 when he joined the Army Reserves. In 1963, he made the transition to the Air Force, where he demonstrated remarkable dedication and expertise as a pilot. Claiborne's passion for aviation led him to fly multi-engine airplanes and ultimately become a flight instructor for commercial, instrument, and multi-engine pilots. His commitment to excellence in aviation not only showcased his skills but also reflected his generous spirit in sharing his knowledge with future generations. Following his military career, Claiborne began a fulfilling career in sales for an aviation company, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.
Claiborne is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Fitch, who stood by his side throughout their 52 year long journey together. He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence L. Fitch; his mother, Gladys Hunt Fitch; and his brother, Charles Smit Fitch. The legacy of Claiborne will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and felt his warmth.
