Barbara Murdock

Barbara Ann Murdock, 96, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, in Hill City, Kansas.

Barbara was born on August 11, 1930, in Bonner Springs, Kansas, to Waldena and Mary Ann Palmer. She grew up in Winfield, Kansas, and was the youngest of seven children. Barbara had a happy childhood and especially cherished caring for her grandmother, Nettie Palmer, who lived nearby. She attended school in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School.

At the age of 19, Barbara moved to Los Angeles, California. There, she and her first husband, Archie Childers Jr., joined 103rd Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend N. F. Fisher. They later moved their membership to Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E. C. Johnson. Barbara became deeply involved in the church’s youth ministry, leading the youth choir and teaching Bible classes.

Barbara attended Los Angeles Bible School and later served as an Evangelist. She carried the message of Jesus Christ into churches of various denominations and became known affectionately as “The Preacher/Teacher.” Dedicated to the work of Jesus Christ, Barbara counseled people from all walks of life, including the discouraged, the encouraged, the hopeful, and the hopeless. She always shared the love and message of Jesus.

Barbara was married to Clemmie Murdock Sr. for 25 years. Together, they established a church and ministered the Word of God to many souls. She also hosted a weekly radio program, through which she continued to spread the Word of God and touch the lives of countless listeners.

Barbara was the beloved mother of Mitchell Gregory Childers, Sandra Ann Beck, Stephanie Diane Childers, Archie Childers III, Delwyn Ray Childers, and Stanley Marc Childers. She was also a cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldena and Mary Ann Palmer; her siblings, Eugene Meryl Palmer (Gertrude), Helen Frances Minters (Albert), Gwendolyn Marie Jones (O’Rue), Kenneth O. Palmer, Walter Dean Palmer, and Madeline Jane Cruel; and her beloved son, Mitchell Gregory Childers.

Those who knew Barbara will remember her for her bright and vibrant spirit, infectious smile, and agape love for everyone she encountered. She loved attending church services, ministering, playing cards, bowling, and shopping. Most of all, she treasured spending quality time with her family and friends.

One of the qualities that made Barbara so special was her ability to accept people without judgment, regardless of their walk of life. She believed deeply in her purpose: to reach as many souls as possible and introduce others to the love of Jesus Christ.

Above all, Barbara was devoted to her ministry and to serving God. Her faith, compassion, wisdom, and unwavering love will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, church family, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life for Barbara Ann Murdock will be held on October 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA.

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, memories, and lessons that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
