Thomas Moore

December 16, 1950 — December 12, 2018

Thomas Jefferson Moore, 67, of Independence, MO passed away 12 December 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.   Tom the youngest child of James Davis of Brookfield, MO and Beatrice May (Foulis) Moore of Boston, MA was born on 16 December 1950 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Patuxent River, MD.  Tom’s father being a career Navy Sailor took the family across the country but settled in Lees Summit, MO where Tom attended high school.  In the 1970’s Tom moved to Hawaii to be closer to his older sisters.  While in Hawaii Tom worked on the C&H sugar cane plantation and fell in love with the islands and the culture.  Over the years to come Tom would continually travel back and forth from the main land to Hawaii to find solace.

Tom wore many different hats over his life span from working on the sugar cane plantation to driving over the road and in the 1980’s found his passion in nursing.  He began his career as a phlebotomist working in blood donation centers, and progressed over the years to become a registered nurse in 1999.   Tom was a member of the Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps of the Greater Kansas City Area and deployed with other healthcare professional to render aid in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  He was also a member of the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration along with being a volunteer at the American Red Cross.  Along with his passion for caring and helping others, Tom had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, see new sites, and experience new things.  He was always game to pack up the car and go on a road trip to wherever and truly enjoyed all that every new adventure had to offer.

In 2015 while working as the Director of Nursing at Hidden Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Tom met and fell in love with his now wife Joyce (Clay).  The two were inseparable and were united in marriage on 18 July 2018.

Tom is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, three sisters Mrs. Carol Ventura of UT, Mrs. Linda Brooks, of Maui, HI, Mrs. Winona Caldwell of Memphis, TN, brother-in-law Gary Clay and wife Vicky of Kansas City, and niece Mrs. Valerie Tamashiro and husband Michael of Kauai, HI, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Per Tom’s wishes a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Kauai, HI.
