Dorothy Schmidt

January 9, 1937 — January 17, 2019

Dorothy (Owens) Schmidt

Dottie joined her son David in heaven on January 17,2019, after passing at Kansas City Hospice House.  She was born January 19, 1937, to Helen and Brick Owens of Kansas City.  Services will be held Friday, January 25, at 1:30 in the Wesley Chapel of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood.  A reception will follow in the Student Center.

Dottie graduated from Paseo High School and was a Gamma Phi Beta at KU.  She married David L. Schmidt of Wichita and they had three children: David who is deceased, and surviving daughters Deborah O’Hearne (Brian) and Dana Arth (Chris) of Overland Park. She is also survived by her husband and her brother, Charles Owens of Shawnee.

She enjoyed an early working career at Rothchild’s and Herzfeld’s and later at Old Shawnee Trading Post. Dottie was a girl scout leader, and sponsor of the cheerleader teams for both daughters from fourth through ninth grades.  She and Dave enjoyed traveling to Australia, Germany, Greece, Hawaii and Bermuda, as well as all around the US, Mexico and the Caribbean. Dottie was a golfer and a member of Brookridge and Blue Hills Country Clubs.

As a proud grandmother (and great grandmother) for Emily, Lauren, Paige, Alexandra, David, Samuel, Jonathan, Oliver and Drew, she was proud to attend their various events.  Dottie was a longtime member at Village Presbyterian and then the Church of the Resurrection. Special thanks to her nurse, Julie Dressman, longtime friends Judy Diamond and Kay Schmidt and all at the Panache beauty shop including Mary, her stylist for nearly 50 years.

No flowers please, any contributions can be made to the Silver Link Ministry of the Church of the Resurrection.
